Key facts
2009–2012Mathematical training
Dosovitskiy earned a master’s-level mathematics degree and a PhD at Moscow State University in 2009 and 2012, before moving into computer vision.[1]
2013–2015Research in Freiburg
He conducted postdoctoral research in Thomas Brox’s computer vision group at the University of Freiburg, studying unsupervised learning, image generation and motion estimation.[1]
2015FlowNet
The FlowNet team treated optical-flow estimation as supervised learning, using convolutional networks to estimate motion between images and creating synthetic Flying Chairs training data. Dosovitskiy co-authored the paper.[2]
2017CARLA driving simulator
He led the CARLA paper introducing an open-source urban driving simulator with configurable sensors and environmental conditions for developing, training and validating autonomous-driving systems.[3]
2019–2020Google and Vision Transformer
After working at IntelIntelIntel is a semiconductor company headquartered in Santa Clara, California, founded by Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore in 1968; it introduced the 4004 microprocessor in 1971, its x86 processors have long powered personal computers, it has pursued a foundry strategy since 2021, and Lip-Bu Tan has been its chief executive officer since 2025.Open the full entry Labs, he joined GoogleGoogleGoogle is an American technology company founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin and incorporated in 1998. It became an Alphabet subsidiary in 2015. Its businesses include internet search, advertising, software platforms, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence.Open the full entry Research in 2019. The 2020 Vision Transformer paper fed sequences of image patches into a Transformer, demonstrating image classification after large-scale pretraining.[1][4]
2024–2026Biology and Recursive
He joined Inceptive in 2024 to work on machine learning for RNA and became a co-founder of Recursive alongside Richard SocherRichard SocherRichard Socher is an AI researcher, entrepreneur and investor. He is co-founder and CEO of Recursive, founder and CEO of You.com, and co-founder and managing partner of AIX Ventures. A Stanford computer science PhD, he contributed to the Stanford Sentiment Treebank and GloVe, founded MetaMind, and served as chief scientist at Salesforce.Open the full entry and colleagues in 2026.[1][5]
