2016New York launch
In Schreiber’s account, Lemonade completed its first product version in January 2016 but still needed regulatory permission. It launched in New York on September 21 and sold policies to 97 customers that day. The early conversational interface still relied partly on manual work.[5]
2019proposing a test of algorithmic fairness
In AI Can Vanquish Bias, Schreiber argued that richer data could shift insurance pricing from broad groups toward individual risk. He proposed testing outcomes through uniform loss ratios across groups, while acknowledging inherited data bias. This was his proposed framework, not a demonstrated system that had eliminated discrimination.[6][3]
2020Lemonade’s stock-market listing
Lemonade listed on the New York Stock Exchange on July 2, 2020 during Schreiber’s leadership. The company had entered Germany in 2019, then expanded to the Netherlands and launched in France in December 2020.[7]
2021distinguishing precise pricing from solidarity
On March 15, Schreiber wrote in AI Doesn’t Do Solidarity that accurate risk pricing could still make coverage unaffordable for those who need it most. He favored government-led social protection and proposed a Solidarity Tax & Rebate framework to subsidize essential insurance for low-income people. It was a policy proposal, not an implemented universal system.[8]

2022Metromile acquisition and UK entry

Effective January 1, 2024, Schreiber returned to being sole CEO and Wininger became President. The board approved the change on December 18, 2023; the filing said the founders favored clearer responsibilities.[12]
2026discussing “AI-only” organizations
On April 30, Schreiber proposed “AI-only” workflows in which people set goals, values, constraints and escalation conditions while machines execute end to end. He distinguished this from companies without people and warned that business efficiency could bring persistent unemployment, connecting the social consequences to his policy work.[13]
2026growth alongside continuing losses
At the end of the second quarter of 2026, Lemonade reported about 3.309 million customers, quarterly revenue of $294.4 million and a net loss of $43.4 million. It guided to positive adjusted EBITDA in the fourth quarter; that remained a forecast and did not mean GAAP net profitability had been achieved.[14]
2026expanding discounts for supervised Tesla miles
On October 8, Lemonade extended its program to Tesla Hardware 3 using FSD (Supervised) v14 Lite, discounting eligible miles by 30% in Arizona, Colorado and Tennessee. The release specified 50% for Hardware 4 with FSD v14.2 or later. Customer permission is required for data sharing, and FSD still requires driver supervision.[15]
Founding and chairing MOSAIC
Schreiber publicly identifies himself as MOSAIC’s founder, and its website lists him as Chair. The nonprofit studies AI’s effects on Israeli employment and society. Its model proposes capturing automation gains through dynamic VAT and above-trend fiscal revenues, then funding an income floor through a negative income tax. These are model proposals, not demonstrated policy outcomes.[3][2][16]
Business philosophy
The founders’ letter by Schreiber and Wininger emphasizes long-term value, rapid learning and expansion, balancing profitability optimization against market opportunity. It also presents Lemonade’s public-benefit corporate status as incorporating social value into decisions alongside long-term profit goals.[17]
Data and privacy disputes
During Schreiber’s leadership, Lemonade faced disputes over data and claims automation. It denied using emotion recognition for automatic claim denials. The Clarke biometric-video case settled for $4 million in 2022; a separate online-quotation data-disclosure case received approval of a $10.5 million settlement in 2026. Both included denials of liability and do not establish personal wrongdoing by Schreiber.[18][19][20][21][22]
