2000Establishment
The collection launched in 2000 as Limited Edition by Virgin with Necker Island, Ulusaba and London members’ club The Roof Gardens, later sold. It adopted the Virgin Limited Edition name in 2005.[1]
Business: Island, mountain and safari retreats
The collection operates smaller, location-specific properties spanning private islands, ski chalets, safari camps and vineyard hotels, with accommodation and destination activities. Its portfolio differs from a standardized urban hotel chain.[2]
2023Hospitality-group integration
In January 2023 Virgin Limited Edition and Virgin Hotels were brought together under Virgin Hotels Collection. The two brands retained distinct positioning while sharing a parent for development and residential projects.[3]
Portfolio: Nine retreats
The website lists Necker Island, The Branson Beach Estate, Kasbah Tamadot, Mahali Mzuri, Finch Hattons, Mont Rochelle, Ulusaba, Son Bunyola and The Lodge, spanning the British Virgin Islands, Morocco, Kenya, South Africa, Spain and Switzerland. It lists Ulusaba’s reopening for April 2027.[4]
Development plan: A new Marrakech hotel
A partnership with Sazanes Immobilier is developing a 37-suite hotel near Marrakech. Announced plans call for 22 keys in Q1 2027 and the remaining 15 in Q1 2028; it is a planned development, not an operating property as of November 2026.[5]
