他也在三一學院完成本科學業;博士論文題為“The Leech lattice and other lattices”(Leech 格及其他格),導師為 John Conway;1983年至1987年任三一學院研究員。[2]

Whitehead

獲獎後不久他表示:“Before the award I used to think it was terribly important, but now I realise that it’s meaningless.”(獲獎前我以為它非常重要,現在我意識到它毫無意義。)[3]

在2024年12月發表的訪談中,他表示“AI is pretty close to being able to formalize an awful lot of human mathematics”(AI 已非常接近能把大量人類數學形式化)。

他表示,按正確性評分“just adds a huge incentive for them to use AI for homework instead of doing it themselves”(只會大大促使學生用 AI 代寫作業),並且“penalizes students for honesty”(懲罰誠實的學生),因為“There is no easy way to tell the difference between human and AI-generated work.”(沒有簡便方法區分人寫的作業和 AI 生成的作業。)[18]

他承認新做法“not a very good system”(不是很好的制度)。他認為,若 AI 保持目前的進步速度,“in a few years, there’ll be nothing human mathematicians can do that AI can’t do better”(幾年後,人類數學家能做的事 AI 都會做得更好),並稱以往技術突破曾淘汰手工織布業,但“This is the first time anything like this has happened in mathematics, though.”(但這在數學界尚屬首次。)[19]

Gritsch [2]
