Enrolling at Stanford University

Moore is from Portland, Oregon, and enrolled at Stanford University in 2012 together with her twin sister, Justine Moore; they initially planned to study journalism and covered the entrepreneurship beat for the student newspaper The Stanford Daily. In their junior year, the two founded Cardinal Ventures, an on-campus startup incubator that gives two cohorts a year of 12 to 20 startups each $5,000 in non-dilutive capital and 10 weeks of mentorship.[1][1][1][2]

Joining CRV

After graduating, Moore worked as an analyst on Goldman Sachs’ Alternative Investments and Manager Selection team. The two built a personal brand under the name “The Venture Twins” and co-ran Accelerated, a weekly tech newsletter for college students; as of October 2018, the newsletter had about 5,200 subscribers and 120 campus ambassadors, and its network helped bring about CRV’s investments in the bra brand Harper Wilde and in Uppercase.[1][1][1][1]

Publishing an Article on GMV Retention

In April 2022, Moore, by then at a16z, published an article arguing that GMV (gross merchandise volume) retention is the most predictive yet often overlooked metric for judging the quality of a marketplace business, with a calculation template and the benchmarks used by the a16z team.[3][3][3]

Marketplace 100 and Healthcare Marketplaces

In 2023, Moore and Zach Cohen published the fourth a16z Marketplace 100 under their bylines, ranking consumer-facing marketplace startups and private companies by annual GMV. Publishing the Seventh Edition of the Gen AI Consumer Apps Ranking

In October 2026, Moore published the seventh edition of “The Top 100 Gen AI Consumer Apps,” in which only 11 products appeared for the first time, the fewest across the seven editions; this edition added, for the first time, a ranking based on YipitData’s U.S. consumer card spending data, and from then on excluded products primarily designed for NSFW use.[11][11][11]

The report found that consumer AI usage is wide but not deep: as of August 2026, only 4.5% of U.S. consumers had an active paid personal subscription to ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude, while the top 10% of spenders accounted for about half of all observed spending, suggesting that consumer AI may need a new business model.[11][11][11][11]
