1998年10月27日创刊
National Post由Conrad Black创办，首期于1998年10月27日出版；Black在创刊前数月买下Financial Post并将其并入新报。他当时表示“There’s certainly room for two papers out there”（市场上当然容得下两份报纸）。[1]
2000年11月16日CanWest取得50%权益
CanWest Global Communications于2000年11月16日完成以约31亿加元收购Hollinger几乎全部加拿大报纸和互联网资产，其中包括National Post的50%权益。[2]

2001年8月24日Hollinger同意出售剩余权益

2009年10月27日Canwest申请转移该报
在《公司债权人安排法》程序中，Canwest申请法院批准将National Post的资产和业务转入Canwest Publishing Inc.新设的子公司，新公司将向全部员工提供职位并承担该报的养老金计划。[5]
2009年10月30日法院批准转移
安大略省高等法院批准该转移并发出归属令，交易预计于10月31日完成。[6]
2010年7月13日归入Postmedia
Postmedia Network Canada Corp.完成收购Canwest Limited Partnership几乎全部资产，National Post Inc.随之归入Postmedia。[7]
2017年9月29日工会组织投票
该报编辑部员工于2017年9月发起加入Communications Workers of America加拿大分会的工会组织活动，并于9月29日投票；2018年4月26日，安大略劳资关系委员会就两张争议选票作出裁定后，组建工会以31票对32票失败。[8]
