Going Public by Merger

On July 23, 2021, Atieva completed its merger with the blank-check company Churchill Capital Corp IV, which renamed itself Lucid Group, Inc.; a concurrent private placement raised about $2.5 billion.[2]

The shares began trading on Nasdaq as LCID on July 26. Ayar, owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, held about 62.7% of the stock, and Peter Rawlinson was chief executive.[2]

First Lucid Air Deliveries

The company began delivering the Lucid Air sedan to customers in October 2021, starting with the Lucid Air Dream Edition, built at its factory in Casa Grande, Arizona.[1]

Rawlinson Resigns

Chief executive and chief technology officer Peter Rawlinson resigned in February 2025, and chief operating officer Marc Winterhoff became interim chief executive.[3]

June–July 2026: Napoli Takes Office and Restructuring

Napoli’s appointment took effect on June 1, 2026, and Winterhoff resumed his role as chief operating officer; Turqi Alnowaiser is chairman of the board.[5]

In June 2026 the company announced a U.S. workforce reduction expected to save about $158 million a year.[6]

By July 2026 it had cut more than 2,000 employees during the year and was eliminating the second production shift at its Arizona factory.[7]

Second-Quarter Deliveries and Management Changes

In the second quarter of 2026 the company produced 4,774 vehicles and delivered 3,953. The same day it named Alexander De Bock incoming chief financial officer, said CFO Taoufiq Boussaid would leave after a handover, and appointed Raja Ramana Macha chief technology officer.[8]

Denial of Bankruptcy and Take-Private Rumors

On the afternoon of July 14, 2026, an electric vehicle blog post alleged that AlixPartners had been asked to advise Lucid’s board on Chapter 11 protection or a take-private deal. Within about an hour the shares fell from $5.51 to an intraday low of $2.46, triggering two trading halts, before closing at $4.64.[9]

In a filing that day the company called the rumors “completely false,” said it had sufficient liquidity to carry its operations well into the next year, and said it had formed no special board committee to explore such scenarios; AlixPartners was assisting only with operations and had not recommended bankruptcy to management or the board.[10]

Second-Quarter Results

In the second quarter of 2026 the company had revenue of $405.3 million, up from $259.4 million a year earlier, and a net loss of $1,034.9 million; it ended the quarter with $3.0 billion in total liquidity, including $732.6 million in cash and cash equivalents.[6]
