Key facts

Founding

FieldAI was founded in 2023, applying its team’s earlier autonomy experience from NASA cave exploration, DARPA SubT and RACER to industrial settings. Those earlier projects describe the team’s background, not operations by a company that already existed.[2]

Team and Leadership

Early Commercialization and Technical Approach

In an IEEE Spectrum interview, cofounder Ali Agha described software and sensor payloads for construction and inspection customers. The approach uses sensor-based environmental understanding and probabilistic modeling to adapt planning and mission execution to changing sites, within each robot’s design constraints.[4]

Two Funding Rounds

Certis Partnership

FieldAI and Singapore’s Certis announced plans to combine robot autonomy with the Mozart orchestration platform for patrols, incident detection, remote supervision and coordination with security staff. The release also reported that FieldAI had opened a Singapore office.[6]

Spot Integration

A partnership with Boston Dynamics integrated FFMs with the quadruped Spot for construction inspection, 3D scanning and progress documentation, connecting observations with digital twins or BIM models. The partners also emphasized fleet coordination and onboard autonomy.[7]

NVIDIA Collaboration

FieldAI expanded its use of NVIDIA Omniverse, using NuRec to turn field sensor data into digital environments for policy training and validation in Isaac Sim and Isaac Lab. It also adopted the Physical AI Data Factory Blueprint through the Azure toolchain.[8]

Big-D Deployment Expansion

An April 2 case study described Big-D Construction expanding its partnership, connecting robot observations with project plans and models to identify missing work and safety issues. Coverage of every project remained a customer aspiration.[9]

Caterpillar Collaboration

On September 2, Caterpillar announced a collaboration combining its industrial data and engineering expertise with FieldAI’s robot foundation models. Initial applications included autonomous inspection, jobsite and factory digital twins, situational awareness and operational optimization using NVIDIA accelerated computing and Omniverse.[10]

Applications and Business Scope

Listed applications include site documentation, equipment inspection, anomaly detection, data capture, material transport and security. Solutions use third-party robots and payloads across construction, energy, manufacturing and other field operations; the use-case list does not establish equal deployment scale for every platform.[11]
