Venky Ganesan

Venky Ganesan is a partner at Menlo Ventures investing in AI software, cybersecurity and infrastructure. He co-founded Trigo Technologies, invested at Globespan Capital Partners and joined Menlo in 2013. He appeared on the Forbes Midas List from 2013 through 2015 and formerly chaired the National Venture Capital Association.

Early life: upbringing and education

In Louis Lehot’s interview account, Ganesan recalled growing up in Cochin, Kerala, taking a sales job as a teenager and moving alone to Washington State at sixteen. He earned a BA in mathematics–economics at Reed College and an honors BS in engineering and applied science at Caltech.⁠[1][2]

Early career: Microsoft and McKinsey

Ganesan began his career as a program manager at Microsoft and later worked at McKinsey in Los Angeles and Johannesburg, before becoming an entrepreneur and investor.⁠[2]

IBM acquires Trigo

He co-founded product information management software company Trigo Technologies and helped build the business. IBM acquired Trigo in 2004.⁠[2][1]

At Globespan Capital Partners, Ganesan was part of the investment team from the firm’s inception and became a managing partner. His investments included Palo Alto Networks, Upwork, Redfin, Amobee and Jajah. Menlo’s biography dates his Palo Alto Networks investment to 2007 and its IPO to 2012.⁠[2]
