Key facts

Matthew Moneypenny Takes Over

In 2007, Matthew Moneypenny, who began his career in Hollywood as an agent at International Creative Management, took over Trunk Archive from five high-end Danish art collectors; by 2011 he was the company’s CEO. He positioned the company as an image licensing agency run like a large talent agency, with archiving, creative services, and digital imaging departments that help photographers organize their archives. By 2011, the company exclusively represented the licensing of fashion photographers such as Hedi Slimane, Bruce Weber, Inez & Vinoodh, and Miles Aldridge, as well as photographers outside fashion such as Mary Ellen Mark, and had about 5,000 clients worldwide.⁠[1][1][1][1][1][1][1][1]

Moneypenny said that, unlike stock agencies such as Getty and Corbis, Trunk Archive forbade the word “stock” in its office.⁠[1][1]

North American Licensing Rights to Magnum Photos

In March 2014, Trunk Archive announced that it had acquired North American licensing rights to the image library of Magnum Photos.⁠[2]

Part of Great Bowery

Partnership With arabianEye

In April 2020, the Middle Eastern image platform arabianEye announced an exclusive partnership with Trunk Archive and Gallery Stock to better meet the image needs of creatives and publishers in the Middle East. Jennifer Fox Freeman, Director of Creative Content at Trunk Archive/Gallery Stock, said arabianEye was a perfect fit for the two brands.⁠[4][4][4][4]

Representing the Helmut Newton Archives

In May 2023, Trunk Archive announced an exclusive partnership with the Helmut Newton Foundation for worldwide licensing of the archives of Helmut Newton and June Newton (known as Alice Springs), with more than 500 images available in the first release.⁠[5][5]

The Art Partner Collection

In February 2024, Trunk Archive announced that it had become the exclusive image licensing partner for the photographers represented by creative agency Art Partner, launching the “Art Partner Collection” featuring work by photographers including Lachlan Bailey, Mario Sorrenti, and Tyler Mitchell. At the time, the photographers whose work Trunk Archive licensed also included Annie Leibovitz, Helmut Newton, and Mary Ellen Mark.⁠[6][6][6][6][6]

As of October 2026: Group Affiliation and Roster

As of October 2026, Trunk Archive remains part of Great Bowery, whose other brands include Gallery Stock, Streeters, M.A.P, and B&A. Trunk Archive features photographer Herb Ritts and has newly signed Anne Geddes.⁠[7][8][8]
