Positioning and Scale

Gallery Stock was founded by Bill Charles and, as of January 2009, had been operating for about five years. It positioned itself as an additional revenue stream for commercial and fine art photographers who had not previously licensed stock, publicizing their work in the right way and for a respectable fee, with fees likely to be higher than at other libraries. By early 2009, the library held more than 50,000 images by about 400 photographers, including Nadav Kander, Stephen Shore, and Larry Fink, and was adding about 3,000 images a month; its editorial clients included high-end publications such as Le Monde, and its advertising clients included the major agencies in Europe and the United States. At the time, the company’s European office in Shoreditch, London, had been open for just over a year, with Stewart Mungeam as general manager, and offices were planned for Germany and Singapore.⁠[1][1]

Part of Great Bowery

Partnership With arabianEye

In April 2020, the Middle Eastern image platform arabianEye announced an exclusive partnership with Gallery Stock and Trunk Archive to better meet the image needs of creatives and publishers in the Middle East.⁠[3][3]

As of October 2026, Gallery Stock offers rights-managed and royalty-free images, motion, and illustration licensing, as well as custom shoots, with content from established and emerging visual artists, and lists contact numbers in the United States, Germany, France, and Australia. The site is owned by Great Bowery Inc.; other brands in the group include Trunk Archive, Streeters, M.A.P, and B&A, and Trunk Archive lists Gallery Stock as a partner agency.⁠[4][4][4][4][4][4][5]
