Wang and chief product officer Jake Mintz described temporarily withholding AI access from new non-engineering employees. Mentorship and hands-on work were intended to build judgment before managers confirmed they could identify incorrect answers. Engineers retained access from their first day.[6][7]
October 6, 2026Recalling the Work of Turning Regulation into Software
In an interview account published by a16z Jobs, Wang recalled building reconciliation systems for mortgage funds while at Soros. He said that after starting Valon, he spent about 18 hours a day for six months reading and annotating regulations, organizing federal and state requirements into software logic. The team obtained licenses and operated a servicer to test its systems on actual loans.[8]
That day, he confirmed on X that the company had announced a $150 million Series D the previous day.[9]
