Cerebro

Cerebro is an investment operating system used internally by the venture capital firm Seven Seven Six (776), designed by founder Alexis Ohanian, developed by engineering lead Asif Ahmed, and in use since 2020. The system connects and makes searchable records of meetings, pitches, notes, contacts, and investment judgments; it is used by 776’s partners and the founders the firm backs, is not sold externally, and is available by invitation only.

Key facts

Put Into Use

Cerebro was designed by Alexis Ohanian when he founded Seven Seven Six (776) in 2020, and it was put into use the same year. Ohanian decides the system’s feature direction, and engineering lead Asif Ahmed develops it; Ahmed is its sole full-time engineer.[1][2][1]

First External Users

In February 2021, Ohanian said on X that Cerebro had real users beyond the 776 team.[3]

Contact Network Search

As of February 2022, Cerebro was described as 776’s first product, allowing founders backed by 776 to search the firm’s network of about 44,000 contacts and request an introduction “with one click.”[4]

Hiring a Head of Product

In February 2024, 776 was hiring a head of product for Cerebro. Ohanian said that Cerebro would never have hundreds of thousands of users, but that it provided significant value to the people who use it and was a differentiator for 776 in the venture capital industry.[5]

Launch of the MUSE Feature

In May 2025, Cerebro added a feature called MUSE, which works much like Cameo: founders backed by 776 can use it for free to generate personalized videos from the firm’s partners.[6]

Integration With Slack

In April 2026, Ohanian said that Cerebro AI had been added to 776’s Slack as a “colleague” with access to the proprietary knowledge and history of the firm and its portfolio over the past six years.[7]

Public Website Launches

On August 12, 2026, Cerebro’s public website published its first blog post, explaining that Cerebro is not sold externally but is 776’s internal system, shared with the founders the firm backs as part of the relationship, and that it goes far beyond a customer relationship management system, covering the full process from deal sourcing to portfolio management.[1][8]

Ohanian Publicly Introduces Cerebro

On August 24, 2026, Ohanian posted a thread on his personal X account introducing Cerebro, calling it a project he had been building quietly for six years and obsessively for the last eight months, and saying he wanted 776 to be the first software company that deploys venture capital. He explained that the system records every meeting, every pitch, every note, and every founder interaction at 776 over six years and makes all of it queryable; whereas a customer relationship management system stores contacts, Cerebro stores judgment, meaning a record of how the firm evaluated companies and whom it backed and why.[9][10][11]

In an introductory video released the same day, Ohanian said the system had accumulated nearly 100,000 contacts and six years of data; the app had moved to distribution through TestFlight and is available only to the 776 team and the founders it backs, with access by invitation.[12][8]
