Dwight B. Waldo

Dwight B. Waldo(1864年—1939年)是美國教育家,1899年至1904年任密歇根州 Marquette 的 Northern State Normal 校長;1904年起任 Kalamazoo 的 Western State Normal School(今 Western Michigan University)首任校長,執掌該校32年至1936年,任內學校由兩年制師範學校發展為四年制師範學院。

出生

Waldo 全名 Dwight Bryant Waldo,1864年6月13日生於美國紐約州 Arcade。⁠[1][1]

出任 Northern State Normal 校長

1899年4月,密歇根州州長簽署法案,在 Marquette 設立 Northern State Normal。同年7月16日,Waldo 與州教育委員會三名委員及 John M. Longyear 乘馬車前往選定的山丘,勘定校舍位置;9月6日,他與學校建築師 D.F. Charleton 出席市議會會議,請求借用市政廳二樓作教室。⁠[2][2][2]

1899年9月19日,首批32名學生在租用的舊市政廳開課,Waldo 任校長;第二週結束時,註冊學生增至61人。他擔任該校校長至1904年。⁠[2][3]

出任 Western State Normal School 首任校長

1904年4月1日,Waldo 出任位於 Kalamazoo 的 Western State Normal School 校長,成為該校首任校長;他執掌學校32年,其中後28年的職銜為 president。⁠[4][4][1][1]

退休

1936年9月1日,Waldo 卸任退休,由 Paul V. Sangren 接任 Western State Teachers College 校長。⁠[4][1]

Waldo Stadium 以其命名

1939年,學校耗資25萬美元興建新體育場;同年賽季稍後,這座附設八道跑道的橄欖球場被獻給榮譽退休校長 Waldo,命名為 Waldo Stadium。Waldo 是學校體育的堅定支持者。⁠[7][7]
