Benjamin Titus Roberts

Benjamin Titus Roberts（B. T. Roberts，1823年7月25日—1893年2月27日）是美國牧師，北美自由衛理公會（Free Methodist Church of North America）的創始人。他原屬衛理公會 Genesee 年議會，1858年被逐出後於1860年在紐約州 Pekin 組建自由衛理公會，並任首任總監督至去世；1866年他在紐約州 North Chili 創辦 Chili Seminary，即今 Roberts Wesleyan University 的前身。

早年與教育

Benjamin Titus Roberts 於1823年7月25日生於美國紐約州 Gowanda。1842年至1844年，他在紐約州 Little Falls 隨 Henry Link 學習法律，之後進入康涅狄格州 Middletown 的 Wesleyan University，1848年畢業。⁠[1]

1848年加入 Genesee 年議會

1848年，Roberts 加入衛理公會（Methodist Episcopal Church）Genesee 年議會，1850年按立為會吏，1852年按立為長老。他批評教會出售或出租座位（pew rental）的做法，認為這會把買不起座位的窮人擋在教會門外。⁠[1][2]

1858年被逐出 Genesee 年議會

1860年組建自由衛理公會

1860年，Roberts 在紐約州 Pekin 組建自由衛理公會（Free Methodist Church），即今北美自由衛理公會，並開始出版刊物《The Earnest Christian》。他自1860年起任自由衛理公會首任總監督（General Superintendent），直至1893年去世；1866年至1890年他還擔任《Free Methodist》編輯。⁠[1]

1866年創辦 Chili Seminary

1866年，Roberts 在紐約州 North Chili 創辦 Chili Seminary，學校最初在一座農舍的一個房間開學。該校1885年改名 A. M. Chesbrough Seminary，1949年改為四年制的 Roberts Wesleyan College，2022年經紐約州教育董事會批准改名 Roberts Wesleyan University。⁠[1][2]

1893年2月27日去世

1893年2月27日，Roberts 在紐約州 Cattaraugus 去世。他的家族文書現藏美國國會圖書館手稿部。⁠[1]
