Abraham Pierson

Abraham Pierson是北美殖民地時期的牧師、Collegiate School創辦人之一及首任rector，任期為1701—1707年。他在Killingworth的住所開展早期教學；該校後來發展為耶魯大學。Pierson College以其命名。

1668年哈佛畢業

Abraham Pierson是同名牧師Abraham Pierson的兒子，1668年畢業於Harvard College。為區別父子，早期Newark記錄稱他為Abraham Pierson, Jr.。⁠[1]

1669—1692年：Newark教會任職

1669年7月28日，Newark居民表決邀請年輕的Pierson協助父親牧會，最初安排為一年；1672年3月，他正式成為共同牧師。父親於1678年去世後，他獨自負責該教會，直至1692年2月或3月離任。⁠[1]

1692—1694年：遷往康涅狄格

離開Newark後，Pierson返回康涅狄格，在Greenwich的第一教會講道約兩年；1694年底成為Killingworth教會的第二任牧師。該地後來成為Clinton。他在當地繼續牧會，同時參與籌辦高等教育。⁠[1][2]

1701年參與創校並擔任首任rector

1701年10月，康涅狄格殖民地通過設立Collegiate School的特許法案，Pierson是法案所列十位創辦人之一。同年11月，他當選學校首任rector，即當時的校務負責人；耶魯官方歷任名錄記其任期為1701—1707年。⁠[3][2][4]

1702年在Killingworth住所授課

學校最初選定Saybrook為正式所在地，但Pierson所屬的Killingworth教會未同意解除其牧師約定，因此教學先在Killingworth開展。1702年3月，來自East Haven的Jacob Heminway來到Pierson住所求學，成為學校最早的學生。⁠[5][3]

1707年去世與校務交接

Pierson於1707年3月5日去世，結束其首任rector任期。Samuel Andrew隨後接任，學校也在Pierson去世後轉至Saybrook開展教學。⁠[2][4][5]

1874年校園紀念雕像

1874年，雕塑家Launt Thompson創作的Pierson紀念雕像在耶魯校園落成，由Charles Morgan捐贈；Clinton的Morgan School也設置了複製像。⁠[2]

1933年以其命名的住宿學院

耶魯的Pierson College於1933年建成，以Abraham Pierson命名，紀念他作為Collegiate School創辦人的角色。⁠[6]
