Early Life: Oren Zeev at Apax

Oren Zeev began his investing career on Apax Partners’ Israel team and moved to Apax’s venture business in Silicon Valley around 2002. There he used $11 million of Apax’s money to buy a 40% stake in Audible, a public company then worth about $30 million; Amazon acquired Audible in 2008 for about $300 million.[1][1][1][1][1]

Angel Investing and Peter Thiel’s First Commitment

Zeev left Apax after it shifted its focus to mega buyouts and began angel investing with his own money, also forming a consortium called Primera Capital with three other investors in which he was the only one sourcing deals full-time. In 2008 he and the consortium invested $3.5 million in the Series B of the textbook rental startup Chegg, and he joined its board; in late 2010 he put the first $1 million into the home design platform Houzz. Peter ThielPeter ThielPeter Thiel is an American entrepreneur and investor, a co-founder of PayPal and Palantir Technologies, and the first outside investor in Facebook. He is a partner at the venture capital firm Founders Fund and founded the Thiel Fellowship, which funds young people to leave college and build new things; his public skepticism of higher education, his support for Trump in 2016, and his funding of litigation against Gawker Media have drawn controversy.Open the full entry persuaded him to set up a venture fund under his own name and, as the only external investor, provided its first capital, with a trial period of one year or $20 million, whichever ended first.[1][1][1][1][1][1][1][2][2][2]

Fund Entities Established

Zeev Ventures, L.P.- 2014-A Series was organized in Delaware in 2014 with an address in Palo Alto, and Zeev Ventures II filed a fundraising notice in July 2015. By Zeev’s account, the fund was not officially founded until 2015, when it also began investing money from external investors.[3][3][3][2]

Successive Funds

Zeev Ventures went on to raise new funds in succession: Zeev Ventures III was organized in 2017 and had raised $52 million as of its June 2017 filing; Zeev Ventures VII was organized in 2020 and had raised $188.25 million as of its November 2020 filing; and Zeev Ventures VIII was organized in 2021 and had raised $362.25 million as of its October 2021 filing, which Oren Zeev signed as managing member of the general partner.[4][4][5][5][6][6][6]

Co-leading Reco’s Series A

Next Insurance Sale and Navan IPO

In March 2025, Zeev’s early investment Next Insurance was sold to the German insurance group Munich Re for $2.6 billion. In October of that year, the business travel and expense management platform Navan (formerly TripActions) went public on Nasdaq at a $6.2 billion valuation. Zeev had backed its two founders when there was no company and no employees; at the IPO, Oren Zeev was a Navan director and a holder of more than 10% of its shares, held through several funds including Zeev Ventures II through VIII, with stakes from the seed round to Series G-1. Zeev said his first investment alone was returning about 100 times.[2][2][2][8][8][8][8][8][2]

Zeev Ventures XI

In December 2025, Zeev Ventures XI filed a fundraising notice; the fund was organized in 2025 and had not yet made its first sale at the time of filing.[9][9][9]

Leading Reco’s Series B

On February 10, 2026, Reco announced a $30 million Series B round led by Zeev Ventures. Oren Zeev said his investment strategy had always been to double down on what is working, a pattern he had seen before with Navan and Tipalti. When Reco announced $55 million in additional funding in September 2026, Zeev Ventures was listed as an existing investor; its individual contribution was not disclosed.[10][10][10]

Operating Model and Portfolio

Zeev Ventures is technically a venture fund that invests up to $50 million per round and keeps supporting companies in later rounds, but it has no partners, employees, investment committee or limited partner meetings and is managed by Oren Zeev alone. As of November 2025, it had invested in more than 50 companies, mostly software companies with Israeli connections, with an estimated more than $2.5 billion in assets under management; Zeev served as a director at about 35 of them, usually held the largest stake among the first investors, and typically made investment decisions within 24 to 48 hours.[11][11][11][2][2][2][2][2]

As of October 2026, the active investments listed on its website included Houzz, Navan, Tipalti, Duda, Datarails, Honeybook, Reco, Sentra and Lightspark, and its exited companies included Audible, Chegg, Next Insurance, Uber Freight, Hippo Insurance and dLocal.[12][12][12][12][12][12]
