Key facts
2012Founding
Before founding Status Labs, Darius Fisher worked in political consulting in San Francisco, where his work connected him with two of the top crisis communications professionals in California, and he came to see that his high-profile individual and corporate clients increasingly needed digital reputation services in addition to traditional crisis management strategy. He partnered with Jesse Boskoff, who had a background in technology, marketing and search engine optimization, to create Status Labs in 2012, with the goal of building a new type of digital risk advisory and reputation management company.[1][1][1]
Fisher graduated from Vanderbilt University and worked as a political consultant and copywriter before becoming an entrepreneur. Boskoff earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing and finance from New York University’s Stern School of Business; he had earlier founded RootZoo, a sports community that grew to more than 100,000 users, and served as director of marketing at FanDuel.[2][2][3][3]
March 26, 2015CEO Jordan French Resigns
On March 26, 2015, Jordan French resigned as chief executive of Status Labs at the request of the company’s employees. In February that year, as landowner, he had ordered the demolition of Jumpolin, a party supply store on Cesar Chavez Street in East Austin, while its merchandise was still inside, provoking a strong local backlash; the shop’s owners, a couple, later hired an attorney who filed a lawsuit on their behalf. A public statement French made after the incident appeared to compare troublesome tenants to roaches.[4][4][4][4][4]
Status Labs employees published an open letter to the city of Austin calling French’s actions “inexcusable,” stressing that they were taken outside his role at the company, apologizing to the shop’s owners and to the city, and declaring outright, “We are not Jordan French.” Darius Fisher, then the company’s president, was a co-owner of the property; the open letter described him as a passive investor in F&F Real Estate, the group that owned the land, said he was based in New York, and said he had been unaware of the extreme measures French took in evicting the shop’s owners.[4][4][4][4][4][4]
2016–2019Rapid Expansion
December 2019Wall Street Journal Investigation
Wall Street Journal reporter Rachael Levy published an investigation describing Status Labs as helping high-profile people bury negative news stories, including by planting positive stories on websites masquerading as independent news outlets, and saying its clients had included the financier Jacob Gottlieb and Betsy DeVos, then the U.S. education secretary; the Columbia Journalism Review’s daily roundup of December 16, 2019, summarized the report.[5][5]
March 2026Launch of Incomplete Sentences
In March 2026, Status Labs and the Lone Star Justice Alliance, a Texas nonprofit, launched Incomplete Sentences, a yearlong social impact initiative centered on the experiences of people who received serious sentences for charges they faced as minors, combining personal storytelling, education and advocacy to show what is lost when a single sentence does not tell the whole story. The company contributes its digital storytelling and reputation management expertise as its donation, with the agencies under Millbrook taking part. Earlier, the company had partnered with Defy Ventures, with employees coaching people leaving incarceration on résumés and job applications.[6][6][6][6][6]
Services and Client Policy
Status Labs describes itself as a full-spectrum reputation management agency, offering company and personal reputation management, search engine optimization, generative engine optimization for AI search, digital marketing and strategic advisory. Its strategic advisory business serves corporations, executive teams, government officials and high-profile individuals, covering executive counsel, strategic communications, crisis management and reputation protection (including litigation, regulatory actions, leadership transitions and bankruptcy), and investor and financial relations. The company does not publish fixed packages or flat rates, quoting each engagement according to its scope, risk and timeline.[7][8][9][9][9][9][9][8]
The company says it takes on only engagements whose goals are legitimate and whose facts are defensible, that every prospective engagement passes an internal review before it begins, and that it declines work intended to mislead the public; its strategists work with proprietary analytics and tooling that measures how clients appear across search engines and AI platforms, and every recommendation is reviewed by an experienced strategist.[1][10][1][1]
