Key facts
Background: The Founders
Dan Manges was the founding CTO of Braintree, which acquired Venmo and was then acquired by PayPalPayPalPayPal Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: PYPL) is an American digital payments company that operates payment brands including PayPal, Venmo, Braintree, and Xoom, providing online and in-store payments, money transfers, and consumer credit to consumers and merchants worldwide.Open the full entry in 2013 for $800 million; he then co-founded car insurer Root, which launched in 2016 and went public in 2020 with a $6 billion market capitalization. Before starting RWX, Tommy Graves was a principal engineer at Huckleberry and a senior engineering manager at Root.[1][2]
2022–2023Founding and Early Products
Manges and Graves founded RWX in 2022, naming it after the read, write and execute permissions of computer file systems. That year the company raised a $7 million seed round led by Quiet.[3][2]
After talking with engineering leaders at more than 100 companies, it chose build and test tooling as a starting point and shipped Captain to detect and mitigate flaky tests, ABQ to optimize test parallelization and Runners for CI infrastructure. Concluding that it could not make the improvements it wanted on top of existing CI platforms, the team began building its own CI/CD platform in early 2023.[3]
April 2024Launch of Mint
On April 24, 2024, RWX announced its seed round and launched Mint, a CI/CD platform that defines workflows as a task-based directed acyclic graph (DAG) rather than scripts running on virtual machines, and uses content-based caching so that tasks whose files and commands have not changed hit the cache instead of rerunning.[3][4]
August 2026Series A
On August 4, 2026, RWX announced a $12 million Series A led by Hyde Park Venture Partners, with Quiet, The OHIO Fund, R1 and DV participating and angels including Jenkins creator Kohsuke Kawaguchi, Bryan JohnsonBryan JohnsonBryan Johnson is an entrepreneur and investor who founded Braintree and OS Fund and later pursued neurotechnology and personal health experimentation through Project Blueprint and the Don’t Die initiative.Open the full entry and Theo Browne.[1]
In the announcement Manges argued that with the spread of coding agents the engineering bottleneck was moving from writing code to validating it. RWX uses the command line as its main interface and decouples code execution from version-control webhooks, so agents can test code in sandboxes, run full CI pipelines and deploy preview web apps without a git commit or push. Execution runs on RWX’s own container runtime, which is compatible with the OCI container specification.[1]
September 2026Cursor Origin Marketplace
On September 8, 2026, RWX became an official marketplace integration of Origin, CursorCursorCursor is the trading name of U.S. AI coding software company Anysphere, Inc. and its namesake coding tool. Founded by Michael Truell, Sualeh Asif, Arvid Lunnemark and Aman Sanger, it began as an AI-native development environment forked from VS Code and later shifted toward agent-centered coding. Its November 2025 Series D valued the company at $29.3 billion post-money; on August 14, 2026, SpaceX completed an all-stock acquisition at an implied equity value of $60 billion, making Cursor a wholly owned subsidiary.Open the full entry’s git forge, allowing teams on Origin to trigger RWX CI runs and report results natively. RWX also integrates with Origin, GitHub, GitLab, Forgejo and Codeberg.[5]
Leadership
As of November 2026, RWX’s website listed its leadership as founder and CEO Dan Manges, founder and CTO Tommy Graves and COO Clara Kridler, who previously ran HR, real estate and IT at Hologram and Root and most recently led HR at KoBold Metals.[2]
