Key facts
April 15, 2026Public Launch
On April 15, 2026, Nuvacore published its first announcement, stating that it had been founded by Gerard Williams III, John Bruno, and Ram Srinivasan and was backed by Sequoia Capital. The company said it would redesign the CPU from the ground up for maximum performance and efficiency at scale, serving everything from core infrastructure to advanced AI and continuously running agentic systems, and that it was assembling a small, elite team.[1][1][1][1][1]
Williams and Bruno had previously co-founded the server chip company Nuvia, which QualcommQualcommQualcomm is a semiconductor and wireless technology company headquartered in San Diego, California. Founded in 1985 by Irwin Jacobs and six other former Linkabit colleagues, it built its business on CDMA technology and now rests on two pillars: its Snapdragon chip platforms and the licensing of cellular standard-essential patents. It has faced antitrust investigations and litigation in many jurisdictions, and in recent years has expanded into automotive, IoT, PCs and AI data centers.Open the full entry acquired in 2021 for $1.4 billion (before working capital and other adjustments). Nuvacore’s seed round was led by Sequoia Capital; at the time of its launch, the company was finalizing the seed round and expected to proceed with Series A funding within a few months. It had neither a product nor published specifications at the time.[2][3][4][5][2]
April–June 2026: Building the Leadership Team
On April 30, 2026, Nuvacore appointed David Williamson as SVP of Hardware Engineering. Williamson has a 30-year career that includes AMD, Arm, and more than a decade at Apple, where he took part in Apple’s transition to its own silicon.[6][6][6]
In June of the same year, the company announced three more senior vice president appointments: on June 8, Jon Carvill, whose experience spans MetaMetaMeta (Meta Platforms, Inc.) is a publicly listed American technology company, renamed from Facebook in 2021, that operates social communication, digital advertising, virtual reality, smart glasses and artificial intelligence businesses.Open the full entry, Intel, Qualcomm, GlobalFoundries, AMD, and Nuvia, became SVP of Marketing and Communications; on June 9, Sara Feulner, formerly chief human resources officer at Auctane with roles at Stord, Bumble, and Arm, became SVP of Operations; and on June 10, Anthony Scarpino, who had spent five years at Qualcomm helping develop custom CPU technology after the Nuvia acquisition, became SVP of Software.[7][7][7][8][8][8][9][9][9]
September 29, 2026Unveiling the “Core First” Development Model
On September 29, 2026, Nuvacore described on X the “Core First” development model used for WarpCore, its first general-purpose processor core: it builds most of the foundational CPU core IP first and then selects the instruction set architecture according to the system ultimately being built, rather than settling on x86, Arm, or RISC-V at the outset as in conventional CPU design. The company said that decoupling parts of the microarchitecture from the instruction set lets its engineers focus first on performance, power efficiency, and silicon area.[10][10][10][10][10]
As of October 2026, the company had not said which instruction set WarpCore would ultimately use, while its hiring material referred to RISC-V, Arm64, and x86. WarpCore’s process node, cache hierarchy, pipeline configuration, vector capabilities, and tape-out schedule had not been disclosed.[10][10]
October 2026Fundraising at About a $2.5 Billion Valuation
In October 2026, two people familiar with the matter said that Nuvacore, about six months old and without a product, was raising hundreds of millions of dollars at a valuation of roughly $2.5 billion to develop a new central processor for data centers. The same people said the round had not closed and that the valuation and size could change; Nuvacore declined to comment.[11][11][11][11][11][11][11]
The fundraising came as demand for data center CPUs was rising: the need for computing capacity to power chatbots had increased demand for central processors, which act as traffic controllers in systems built on Nvidia’s AI chips and run AI agent software. The data center CPU market has long been dominated by Intel and AMD, which use x86 technology, while custom CPUs based on Arm technology have also been trying to enter the market.[11][11][11][11][11]
Positioning and Design Goals
Nuvacore describes itself as a next-generation silicon company designing a new general-purpose CPU core for the sustained, intensive demands of AI infrastructure and agentic computing. It argues that AI infrastructure has changed the trade-offs in CPU design between performance and power, capability and area, and peak benchmarks and sustained efficiency, and therefore aims to build from a clean sheet a class of CPU core that leads in performance and power efficiency without sacrificing area efficiency, optimized initially for modern data center infrastructure.[1][12][12][12][12]
In line with this approach, WarpCore targets sustained, demanding workloads in hyperscale data centers and AI infrastructure; efficiency is designed into the core itself, with the goal of maximizing performance per watt and per millimeter of silicon. The new compute demands the company cites include intelligent agents, ongoing inference, extended-context processing, complex orchestration, and rapid data transfers.[12][12][12]
Team and Locations
Gerard Williams III is co-founder, president, and CEO; John Bruno is co-founder and SVP of Systems and Strategy; and Ram Srinivasan is co-founder and SVP of Performance. The leadership team also includes four senior vice presidents for hardware engineering, software, operations, and marketing and communications. All three founders have worked at Apple, Nuvia, and Qualcomm.[13][13][14][15][16]
The company is headquartered in Santa Clara, California, with teams in Austin, Texas; Markham, Ontario, Canada; and Bangalore, India, and its main architecture work takes place at headquarters. As of October 2026, its careers page listed 22 open roles across architecture, design verification, design for test, physical design, RTL design, software, and systems teams, hiring in North America and India. Nuvacore is privately held.[17][17][18][18][18][19]
