Framed around the question “What should school look like if AI can help students learn dramatically faster?”, the conversation had Liemandt arguing that “the answer isn’t to fill the extra time with more academics,” describing Alpha’s model in which students spend two hours a day on core academics and the rest developing real-world skills through projects, and discussing why motivation may matter more than curriculum.[4]
Views on Education
Liemandt wants students to master 100 percent of the material in each course sequence, arguing that gaps left by passing at 70 to 80 percent accumulate over time; Alpha offers new students $100 if they ace the state math test in any tested grade from third grade up. He is critical of chatbots, warning that they encourage cheating, distraction and outsourcing of thinking.[5]
