GPT-6
GPT-6 is an OpenAIOpenAIOpenAI is an artificial intelligence research and product organization founded in 2015 that develops the GPT model series, ChatGPT, Codex and a developer API, and conducts research on image, speech, video and intelligent agents. After its 2025 restructuring, the nonprofit OpenAI Foundation continues to control the for-profit OpenAI Group PBC. Its growth has involved large-scale fundraising and compute partnerships, and has also been accompanied by controversies over governance, copyright, privacy and AI safety.Open the full entry model family introduced in 2026, spanning Astra, Sol, Luna and subsequent 6.1 versions. Its applications include conversation, coding, computer use and professional work, with capabilities and availability varying across models and products.

Key facts
September 3, 2026Astra launch
OpenAI introduced GPT-6 Astra for computer use, software engineering and research, with staged access through ChatGPT, its API, Microsoft Azure and AWS BedrockAmazon BedrockAmazon Bedrock is a managed generative AI service from Amazon Web Services (AWS). It offers API access to foundation models from multiple providers, with customization, knowledge bases, agent development and security controls. Generally available since September 2023, the cloud platform is distinct from the venture firm Bedrock Capital.Open the full entry.[1]
Astra met the cybersecurity Critical threshold in OpenAI’s Preparedness Framework. Behavioral monitoring accompanied deployment, while adversarial tests found its written reasoning harder to monitor. These are company assessments, not guarantees of safety.[1]
September 22, 2026Sol and Luna
Sol and Luna extended the generation across different speed and cost tiers: Sol for demanding everyday work and Luna for cost-sensitive workloads at scale, using training methods similar to Astra’s.[2]
Launch API rates per million tokens were $2 input and $10 output for Sol, and $0.10 input and $0.50 output for Luna. Published evaluations depend on tasks, tools and reasoning settings.[2]
September 29, 2026GPT-6.1 Sol
GPT-6.1 Sol improved coding, professional documents and computer use. It launched in ChatGPT Work, Codex and the API, but not ordinary Chat. Standard input and output rates remained $2 and $10 per million tokens, with cached input at $0.10.[3]
October 7, 2026ChatGPT and Intelligent UI
GPT-6 with Intelligent UI began rolling out in ChatGPT’s Chat experience, generating charts, comparisons or interactive tools and answering progressively while reasoning continued. Paid tiers used conversation-tuned Sol; Free and Go used Luna. Work and Codex models were unchanged by this release.[4]
October 26, 2026GPT-6.1 Terra
GPT-6.1 Terra emphasized visual understanding, computer use and writing efficiency, launching in ChatGPT Work, Codex and the API. Standard prices were $1 input, $0.05 cached input and $5 output per million tokens. It retained Astra safeguards and met the company’s cybersecurity Critical threshold.[5]
