Project Fi Launches

A Third Partner Network

Google announced U.S. Cellular as its third network partner, with access rolling out over subsequent weeks. Fi selected networks based on location and connection conditions; this describes its historical network structure.[2]

Renamed Google Fi

Project Fi became Google Fi and expanded support to more Android phones and iPhones, with iPhone support initially in beta. Features such as network switching varied by device.[3]

Unlimited Plan Added

Fi added an Unlimited plan alongside pay-as-you-use Flexible, bundling international use and 100 GB of Google One storage. At launch it slowed data after 22 GB per person each month and could limit video to 480p; later plans changed these allowances.[4]

Simply Unlimited Introduced

Fi introduced Simply Unlimited for basic calling, messaging and data, alongside Unlimited Plus with broader international features and pay-as-you-use Flexible.[5]

Third-Party Data Incident

Fi notified customers of unauthorized access to a network provider’s third-party system, exposing phone numbers, SIM identifiers and plan information. Notices said Google systems were not accessed and excluded payment details, passwords and communications content from that system. Some customers also received notices of temporary unauthorized SIM transfers.[6]

Google Fi Wireless Branding

Under the Google Fi Wireless name, the service updated family plans, expanded compatible smartwatch connectivity and offered a seven-day eSIM trial. The trial renewed automatically unless canceled, while the app gained family-management features.[7]

Tenth-Anniversary Plan Changes

The tenth-anniversary update added Unlimited Essentials, renamed Simply Unlimited to Unlimited Standard and Unlimited Plus to Unlimited Premium, and raised allowances on the latter two. It also introduced data-only eSIMs and improvements to international 5G, RCS and voicemail on iPhone.[8]

Connectivity and AI Updates

Google expanded Wi-Fi Auto Connect+ for Pixel phones, introduced AI summaries explaining monthly bill changes and announced forthcoming AI-enhanced call audio and a refreshed web calling/messaging interface with RCS. W+ identifies Auto Connect+ connections; availability depends on device and location.[9]

International Connectivity Expanded

Google announced international 5G in more than 110 countries, improved international dual-cellular switching on supported Pixel 7 and newer phones, wider VPN availability and initial W+ deployments at selected European and Asian locations. Device, software, plan and local coverage restrictions apply.[10]

Operator: Google Brand and Service Provider

Fi uses partner-carrier infrastructure; its current coverage page names T-Mobile for U.S. 4G LTE and 5G. It combines cellular service with Wi-Fi calling and W+ on eligible devices. Plan Basis: Standard Website Prices in November 2026

As checked on November 4, 2026, the website lists Flexible and three Unlimited tiers for individuals and groups of up to six. Prices below are standard single-line monthly charges excluding taxes, devices and temporary promotions. Unlimited branding does not mean unlimited high-speed data.[13]

Flexible: Usage-Based Pricing

Flexible costs $20 per month for one line plus $10 per GB, with data in more than 200 international destinations and hotspot tethering. Data slows to 256 kbps after 15 GB per person.[14]

For one person on Flexible, Bill Protection stops ordinary data charges after 6 GB, capping calls, texts and data at $80. Taxes, devices, international calls and other extras are separate. Group thresholds vary by size, and purchasing full-speed data after 15 GB adds charges.[15]

Unlimited Essentials: Basic U.S. Service

Unlimited Essentials costs $35 for one line, with U.S. calls, texts and data. Each person receives 30 GB of high-speed data, then 256 kbps. Unlike Standard and Premium, it does not provide service for international travel.[16]

Unlimited Standard: U.S., Canada, Mexico and Hotspot

Unlimited Standard costs $50 for one line, with 50 GB of high-speed data and 25 GB of high-speed hotspot use per person, plus service in Canada and Mexico. Hotspot use counts toward the plan’s data allowance; speed limits apply after the relevant allowance.[17]

Unlimited Premium: International Data and Benefits

Unlimited Premium costs $65 for one line, with 100 GB of high-speed data, 50 GB of high-speed hotspot use and data in more than 200 destinations. International high-speed data has a separate 50 GB limit. Benefits include 100 GB of Google One storage and an eligible six-month YouTubeYouTubeYouTube is Google’s video-sharing and creator platform, founded in 2005 by Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim and acquired by Google in 2006. Built around video uploading, viewing, and creator earnings, the platform has developed Shorts, YouTube Music, Premium, YouTube TV, and products for children, and is headquartered in San Bruno, California, United States.Open the full entry Premium offer that renews for a fee unless canceled.[18]

International Use: Activation, Warnings and Suspension

The service principally serves U.S. residents. Current help guidance requires activation and at least one day of use in the U.S. before travel. Extended foreign use, typically 50 days, triggers a warning, followed by international-data suspension 30 days after the email. Restoration requires significant U.S. data use for at least 30 days; verified military and State Department exceptions exist.[19]

Security and Family Features: Scope

Fi links numbers to Google Accounts and supports two-step verification, spam blocking and family contact controls. Eligible one-to-one calls between Android phones on Fi are end-to-end encrypted; ordinary SMS does not automatically gain that protection. VPN exceptions and regional limits also apply.[20]
