Zain Jan is an American solar-industry entrepreneur who helped found Sungrade Solar and later co-founded residential solar business Better Earth, serving as its CEO. He also founded solar-business training and coaching venture Solar CEOs and has shared entrepreneurship and sales experience through his podcast and videos.

In a 2019 autobiographical article, Zain Jan recalled growing up near Boston with immigrant parents and later moving with his family to another nearby town.[1]

SOAR Energy announced a partnership with Better Earth to promote residential solar services in California, Arizona, Texas and Florida. The announcement said they would donate part of each installation’s proceeds to clean-water nonprofit GivePower.[4]
September 19, 2023Consumer Suit Against the Companies
Mercedes Quesada filed a proposed class action in Florida alleging that Better Earth and its local subsidiary failed to complete operational solar systems within the contractual period. The defendants were the companies, not Zain Jan personally.[11]

Jonathan Tinajero sued Better Earth, Zain Jan and others in Los Angeles County, asserting wrongful termination, promissory fraud and wage-related claims. These were allegations, not established findings.[13]

August 21, 2024Partial Dismissal in Consumer Case
The federal court dismissed claims against California parent Better Earth, Inc. without prejudice for lack of personal jurisdiction and allowed amendment. This did not terminate the entire case against the Florida subsidiary.[16]
February 5, 2025Employment Pleading Order
The lead case’s public docket lists an order partly sustaining and partly overruling the demurrer and partly granting and denying the motion to strike. This pleading-stage entry does not establish that all employment disputes had ended.[15]
