Patrick McGuire is a journalist and documentary producer and the founder and CEO of the tech video media company Soon; he previously worked in media content at Vice and Red BullRed BullRed Bull GmbH is an energy drink company headquartered in Fuschl am See, Austria, founded in 1984 by Austrian businessman Dietrich Mateschitz and Thai businessman Chaleo Yoovidhya; it has sold its namesake energy drink in Austria since 1987. On February 9, 2018, McGuire wrote about VICE Canada’s collaboration with W5, CTV’s current affairs documentary program, on Steel Town Down: Overdose Crisis in the Soo, a documentary about the opioid crisis in Sault Ste. Marie, a city in northern Ontario; VICE Canada’s earlier documentary on the crisis, Dopesick, had been viewed more than 5 million times on YouTube.[4][4][4][4][4]

On January 28, 2026, McGuire announced the launch of Soon on X and LinkedInLinkedInLinkedIn is a social networking platform for professionals. It was founded in 2002 by Reid Hoffman and others, launched in 2003, and listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 2011; after Microsoft acquired it for approximately $26.2 billion in 2016, it became a wholly owned Microsoft subsidiary. In his LinkedIn post, he listed team members including Brian Cimagala, Dagsen Love, Zeke Spector, and Aaron Power, thanked investor and advisor Eoghan McCabe and advisors Des Traynor, Ciaran Lee, and Abhijeet Dwivedi, and acknowledged behind-the-scenes creators including Ralph Damman; the post did not mention any funding amount.[6][6][6]
On January 29, Soon held a private screening of its first full-length films, each about 15 minutes long, at the Marina Theater in San Francisco.[5]

On March 4, 2026, Gazetteer SF published an article arguing that Soon, built around insider access, offers friendly coverage of an increasingly controversial tech industry, and noting that Soon’s funding was mostly undisclosed and that the only investor McGuire named in a LinkedIn post was Intercom co-founder Eoghan McCabe. McGuire declined the publication’s interview request, saying the team was “totally inundated.”[5][5][5][5][5]
