Key facts
2020Founded as Front Finance
Mesh, formerly Front Finance, was founded in 2020 in the San Francisco Bay Area by Bam Azizi and Adam Israel, with Azizi as CEO. Azizi had previously founded the cybersecurity and identity company NoPassword, which LogMeIn acquired in 2019; Israel came from the banking sector and had been a managing director at HSBC.[1][1][2][1][1][1]
Azizi recalled that the company looked very different when it started; they soon realized that the biggest bottleneck in crypto payments was not the front-end experience but the underlying infrastructure, so they turned to building a neutral connection layer that lets assets move freely across wallets, exchanges, and financial platforms.[3][3][3]
September 2022Launching Business Services
The two founders spent several years building the core infrastructure and rolled it out in September 2022 together with business-to-business offerings, positioning Mesh as an “intermediate connection layer” between non-traditional assets: businesses can let their customers move assets, including crypto, across platforms, and users can connect their various asset-holding accounts to Mesh to manage them in one place.[1][1][1]

Mesh raised a $22 million Series A round led by Money Forward, with participation from Galaxy, Samsung Next, Streamlined Ventures, and others, bringing its total funding to $32 million, to develop its deposit, payment, and payout tools and support go-to-market operations. The same year, the company was selected for the Startup Battlefield 200 at TechCrunch Disrupt 2023.[1][1][1]

The company said its SmartFunding technology converts users’ crypto assets into stablecoins at the point of transaction, so users can pay with any crypto they hold while merchants settle in PYUSD, USDC, or USDT; the company said it already provided payments, deposits, and transfers across more than 300 wallets, exchanges, and platforms.[6][6][7][7][7][7]

In an open letter on January 31, Azizi said he came to the United States 15 years earlier with almost nothing and started a company again after selling his previous startup; he said Mesh then connected more than 300 wallets and exchanges and that the goal was to “make every digital asset spendable.”[11][11][11][3][3][3][3]
August 2026Licenses and Registrations
As of August 13, 2026, Mesh’s operating entity Mesh Connect LLC was registered with the U.S. Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) as a money services business (MSB) and held money transmitter licenses in Michigan and Missouri; the company said it was pursuing additional licenses and registrations in the United States and elsewhere.[12][12][12][12][12]
September 2, 2026Disclosing a Deepfake Video Call Attack
Mesh chief information security officer Daniel Hooper wrote that a few weeks earlier a company sales representative received a Telegram message from a contact he had worked with for months and was invited to a Teams video call; everyone on the call was generated, the others pretended they could not hear him, and someone dropped a link in the chat to a supposedly updated version of Teams, which was actually a script; he clicked it and the company’s endpoint detection and response (EDR) system quarantined the machine. Hooper said the contact’s Telegram account had been taken over and that the incident showed there is currently no reliable way to authenticate whether a remote counterpart is a real person; his approach was to “verify the request, not the person,” limiting what any single interaction can cause.[13][13][13][13][13][13][13][13]

October 13, 2026Acquiring Bluvo
Mesh announced that it had acquired Bluvo, a developer of exchange connectivity technology, and that Bluvo co-founders Florian Sabani and Luca Dalla Chiara had joined Mesh.
