Early Career: Technology and Financial Technology

Brukhman has a background in mathematics and computer science and has worked in distributed systems, web development, product management, private equity research, quantitative trading, and startups. Before founding CoinFund, he was Partner and CTO at Triton Research and a technical product manager and engineer at Amazon.com, and spent five years in financial technology in New York City, including at Highbridge Capital Management.⁠[1][1]

Founding CoinFund in Brooklyn

In 2015, Brukhman founded the blockchain-focused investment firm CoinFund at a kitchen table in Brooklyn, New York; Alex Felix, an American Capital alum, later joined as co-founder. Brukhman has said his work involves collaborating closely with technology teams building blockchain products, networks, and cryptoeconomic systems.⁠[2][1][1]

Partnering with Venrock

In April 2018, the venture capital firm Venrock announced a partnership with CoinFund to help entrepreneurs build blockchain-based businesses. As a CoinFund co-founder, Brukhman said he hoped the partnership would bolster New York’s crypto startup scene, working with Venrock to mentor and support startup teams; he and Venrock partner David Pakman both saw an opportunity for blockchain to disintermediate middlemen.⁠[3][3][3][3]

Presenting the $83 Million Ventures Fund

In July 2021, Brukhman, then CEO, presented Ventures, CoinFund’s third fund, which had closed that March: at $83 million, it was the firm’s largest to date, with institutional investors such as pensions, endowments, and family offices contributing over half; the fund focuses on “early mainstream adoption,” including consumer and enterprise projects and Web 2 developers building in crypto. He said that in the first half of 2021, CoinFund had led or co-led seven blockchain opportunities, including Moonbeam, Rarible, ClayStack, and Community Gaming.⁠[4][4][4][4][4][4]

CoinFund’s Ninth Anniversary and the Mined with CoinFund Podcast

On July 25, 2024, marking its ninth anniversary, CoinFund announced an expanded team and launched the podcast Mined with CoinFund, hosted by David Pakman and Brukhman. At the time, Brukhman was one of the firm’s managing partners, focusing on decentralization technologies and infrastructure and AI x web3. He said CoinFund owed its longevity to constantly rethinking what professional, institutional-grade, and cryptonative partnership looks like, and anticipated that blockchain would see regulatory normalization and early institutional adoption.⁠[5][2][5][5]

CoinFund Focuses on Venture Investing

On January 6, 2026, CoinFund announced that it was spinning out its liquid strategies into a new, independent firm and would focus entirely on venture investing going forward.⁠[6]

Digital Art

Brukhman also founded the digital art gallery First Edition (FIRSTEDITION.XYZ), which supports blockchain-focused NFT creators, collects rare early NFTs, and showcases series of AI works he generated with DALL-E 2 and Midjourney.⁠[1][7][7]
