Key facts
1990Founded by Ron Harvey and Morris Everett Jr.
Everett Collection was founded in 1990 by film image collector Morris Everett Jr. and film-industry veteran Ron Harvey. Everett had been collecting film stills and posters since 1961; Ron Harvey had a background in movie photo leasing. The two met at a movie convention in New York and then opened a business in New York City licensing images based on the collection.[1][2][3][3][3]
In 1991, Everett loaded hundreds of thousands of prints onto a truck and brought them to New York, where Ron Harvey catalogued and advertised the collection; Everett recalled that once media outlets learned the size of the collection, orders poured in, with magazines in Hollywood and Hong Kong ordering from it.[3][3][3][3]
April 2008Representing Four European Archives
In April 2008, Everett Collection signed agreements to represent four European image brands: the Keystone archive, founded in 1927 and owned by France’s Eyedea; Mirrorpix, which represents the image collections of UK newspapers including the Daily Mirror; Mary Evans Picture Library; and Matrix, a celebrity photo agency founded in 1999 that would offer clients 24/7 coverage of London’s entertainment and royalty scenes. The company already represented smaller archives such as the Wisconsin Historical Society and UK agency Rex Features. At the time, it licensed about 2.5 million publicity stills from more than 60,000 film productions, and Ron Harvey was president; he said being a small, niche company had helped secure these representation deals, since many independents feared losing control if they placed images with larger houses.[2][2][2][2][2][2][2][2]
