Key facts

Early Career: From Construction to Car Sales

Elliott has described a financially difficult upbringing, followed by brief construction work after high school and a move into car sales.[1]

The Company’s Account of Its Early Business

One official company page says the business has operated since 2011, initially focusing on automotive training. This differs from the 2019 launch described in a later interview and does not establish a legal incorporation date.[2][1]

Management at Big Red Dealerships

In subsequent testimony, he dated his start as Big Red general manager to December 2012. He left and returned during the following years, finally departing in summer 2019. This employment formed the background to his later federal testimony and public controversy.[3][4]

Building the Training Business with His Wife

In a 2024 interview, he described launching the training company with his wife Jacqueline in 2019, using house-sale proceeds. The website identifies both as founders.[1][2]

Testifying in Federal Court

Elliott appeared as a witness in United States v. Mayes. He admitted involvement in fraudulent practices, including fictitious cash down payments. The prosecutor described a nonprosecution agreement, and Elliott confirmed immunity during cross-examination. Convictions of other defendants were not convictions of Elliott.[3]

Related Dealership Executives Convicted

The Justice Department reported that a jury convicted Chris Mayes, Charles Gooch and Courtney Wells in the dealership case. Elliott was not among those defendants.[5]

Dealer Talk Examines His Dealership History

Dealer Talk examined his Big Red history using trial testimony. It also reported his response denying direct participation and emphasizing his managerial role. That reported denial must be distinguished from his admissions in testimony.[4]

Controversy over Six-Pack Remarks

A training video linking six-pack abs to workplace discipline and invoking dismissal drew criticism. In a New York Post interview, he described the remarks as a metaphor for standards rather than a wholly literal policy and said he had hired overweight people.[6]

Mayes Receives a Prison Sentence

The Justice Department announced a 130-month sentence for dealership owner Mayes. This was Mayes’s sentence, not Elliott’s.[7]

School of Hard Knocks Interview

School of Hard Knocks released an approximately 97-minute interview with Elliott about sales training, discipline, leadership and entrepreneurship. Its description introduced him as founder and CEO of The Elliott Group.[8]

Discussing the Investigation and Personal Change

In a Car Dealership Guy interview, he described cooperating with investigators and telling the truth, presenting the experience as a catalyst for personal change. This was his own account.[1]

In Search of Excellence Appearance

In Search of Excellence released episode 153 featuring Elliott, running approximately 88 minutes. The publisher’s description covered his early life, car sales and transition into training.[9]

Postconviction Proceedings in the Related Case

Mayes’s postconviction application raised disputes about witness materials and legal representation, which prosecutors contested. The court ordered an evidentiary hearing on October 23, 2025; the docket later recorded an order and judgment on March 27, 2026. Ordering a hearing did not itself establish perjury by Elliott.[10][11][12]

Training Courses and Live Programs

The company markets online courses on telephone communication, objections, closing, branding and automotive finance, alongside live programs emphasizing role-play and leadership. Income figures used in some course names are product branding, not guarantees of participant earnings.[13][14]

Brotherhood Membership Program

The website also offers the application-based Elliott Brotherhood for business owners, focusing on leadership, family, fitness and faith as part of its commercial training offerings.[15]
