February 27, 2015Visa Announces TrialPay Acquisition Agreement
Visa announced an agreement to acquire TrialPay, then subject to regulatory approval. It described the company’s merchant-offer technology as a way to connect cardholders, merchants and financial institutions.[4]
October 1, 2015Joining Andreessen Horowitz
Rampell joined a16z as a general partner. The appointment was announced in August, after Visa had acquired TrialPay.[1]
2021Joining Wise’s Board
Rampell began serving on Wise’s board. He had previously been a KCG Holdings director from 2015 to 2017.[3]
February 1, 2024Becoming a Rocket Companies Independent Director
Rocket Companies appointed Rampell an independent director, effective immediately. The company said his fintech and AI experience would support its development of home-finance services.[5]
August 22, 2024Discussing AI and Labor Costs
Rampell argued that AI extends software from recording work to performing it, potentially changing per-seat pricing. He highlighted intermittent, variable demand for tasks without treating the argument as a prediction that all white-collar jobs would disappear.[6]
August 6, 2025Co-Announcing the Rillet Investment
Rampell, Seema Amble and Marc Andrusko jointly announced that a16z was leading Rillet’s Series B. They described its product as an enterprise-resource-planning system combining a general ledger, accounting workflows and AI agents.[7]

Rampell leads a16z’s Apps practice, investing across enterprise and consumer software. His investments include PlaidPlaidPlaid is a financial technology company co-founded by Zach Perret and William Hockey and headquartered in San Francisco. It provides infrastructure connecting financial accounts with applications, with products spanning account verification, payments, lending and fraud prevention, and develops AI models for financial transactions.
