Key facts
2006Founders and launch
Edgeio launched in 2006 with Keith Teare as CEO and Michael Arrington as co-founder. RSS pioneer Dave Winer served as an adviser.[1]
Product: Aggregating distributed listings
Sellers could publish posts tagged listing on their own blogs or sites for Edgeio to collect through RSS. The service also accepted direct classified submissions, including property listings, and sought distribution through a partner network.[1]
December 2007Closure
Edgeio decided to close in December 2007 after spending over $5 million in roughly fourteen months. Contemporary reporting described completed development plans but unmet revenue, user and partner targets.[2]
Founder retrospective: Financing and valuation
In a later Mixergy interview, Teare attributed the failure partly to an overpriced Series A: the business could not secure a Series B at a valuation attractive to new investors, while existing investors rejected a down round. This was his retrospective account.[3]
