1816—1861年The Courier
後來歸入DC Thomson旗下的The Courier於1816年9月20日創刊，起初是常僅兩版的週五報紙，此後近50年為週報或半週報，1861年改為日報。[1]
1886年買下The Dundee Courier
Thomson家族的事業始於19世紀初William Thomson經營的航運業，19世紀中葉開始涉足出版，1886年買下The Dundee Courier。[2]
1905年3月27日註冊成立
D.C. Thomson & Company Limited於1905年3月27日註冊為私人有限公司，公司編號SC005830，註冊辦事處位於Dundee的Courier Buildings，登記業務為報紙出版。[3]
1914—1919年推出週日報
1914年10月，公司推出Saturday版報紙The Post的增刊The Post Sunday Special，刊登一戰陣亡士兵名單；1919年1月19日，首期The Sunday Post面世。[4]
1936年3月The Broons
連環漫畫The Broons於1936年3月首次刊出，此後每週登載於The Sunday Post；其年刊於1939年首次出版，與Oor Wullie年刊輪流發行。[5]
1938年Beano創刊
公司於1938年出版第一期Beano，其角色Dennis於1951年首次登場；DC Thomson稱Beano是英國最具辨識度的品牌之一。[6]
1952年5月9日印刷業爭議
1952年，一場與D.C. Thomson & Co., Ltd.有關的勞資爭議波及倫敦的City Press：工會堅持刪去一篇支持Thomson立場的文章，業主以新聞自由原則為由拒絕，印刷隨即停頓。5月9日，勞工大臣在下議院宣佈工會已促成全面復工，並將依據Industrial Courts Act 1919成立調查法庭。[7]
1972年Northwood Charitable Trust
Northwood Charitable Trust成立於1972年，起始資金來自一位將所持家族企業股份捐出的Thomson家族成員，資助藝術與文化遺產、教育、健康以及扶貧等領域，現任受託人均為家族成員。[8]
1987年入股Waterstones
1987年，公司買下連鎖書店Waterstones的30%股份。[2]
2007年收購Findmypast
家譜網站Findmypast的前身Title Research始於1965年；2007年它更名為Findmypast並由DC Thomson收購，2010年與British Library合作將報紙館藏數字化，現稱擁有逾40億條家族記錄。[9]
2009年10月7日Stylist創刊
女性雜誌Stylist於2009年10月7日創刊，是首份面向女性的免費雜誌；如今作為DC Thomson旗下品牌，自稱每月觸達英國400萬名女性。[10]
2023年2月9日裁員300人
2023年2月，DC Thomson宣佈裁員約300人並關閉26份刊物，包括20份原屬Aceville的雜誌和Living、Shout等6份Dundee出版的雜誌，以填補約1,000萬英鎊缺口。媒體業務首席執行官Rebecca Miskin稱調整“vital to set us up to thrive in the future”（對公司未來發展至關重要）；全國記者工會（NUJ）則批評這是“brutal cuts”（殘酷的削減）。[11]
2024年1月2022/23財年虧損
截至2023年3月31日的財年，集團收入持平於1.61億英鎊，稅前虧損1.615億英鎊（上年為稅前利潤720萬英鎊），其中1.499億英鎊源於金融資產價值下跌；公司當年向股東派息共2,490萬英鎊，員工約1,300人。[12]
2025年1月2023/24財年轉盈
截至2024年3月31日的財年，經常性營業收入下降6%至1.345億英鎊，但稅前利潤回升至9,380萬英鎊，其中9,200萬英鎊來自金融資產；平均員工人數為1,314人。[13]
2025年8月20日成立控股公司
D.C. Thomson & Company Holdings Limited於2025年8月20日在蘇格蘭註冊（公司編號SC859647），註冊地址與D.C. Thomson & Company Limited相同，登記為控股公司。[14]
2026年1月2024/25財年業績
截至2025年3月31日的財年，集團收入由1.54億英鎊增至1.84億英鎊，其中2,900萬英鎊來自當年設立、為集團設定受益養老金負債提供再保險的子公司Meadowside Insurance；稅前利潤為3,100萬英鎊。[15]
2026年3月20日控股公司取得控制權
自2026年3月20日起，D.C. Thomson & Company Holdings Limited登記為D.C. Thomson & Company Limited的重要控制人，持有75%以上股份和表決權，並有權任免董事。[16]

D.C. Thomson & Company Limited現有董事Christopher Harold William Thomson（1995年10月1日起）、Alan Richard Finden Hall（2011年5月2日起）、David Howard Eric Thomson（2014年4月1日起）、Benjamin John Howard Gray與John Sidney Thomson（均為2022年4月1日起），公司秘書為Peter McCall（2026年4月1日起）。[17]
