Announcing People Search Site Removals

Incogni announced that it could remove personal information from people search sites, extending its service to five types of data brokers. Speaking as its head, Belejevas said: “We believe that everyone has a right to privacy.”[3]

On Data Brokers and Removal Services

On the mnemonic security podcast he explained that data brokers collect personal data from apps, loyalty programs, web scraping, public records and social media, and trade it by selling datasets or licensing access through APIs. Some brokers ask for identity documents before processing deletion requests, he said, while Incogni verifies people only by name, email address and home address. The episode also covered the EU’s GDPR, California’s CCPA and California’s DELETE Act.[2]

Publishing the Deloitte Limited Assurance Report

Incogni published an independent limited assurance report by Deloitte Lietuva UAB covering matters such as the number of brokers its deletion requests reach, how often requests are repeated and whether customer data is sold. “The trust of our users is what drives our service,” Belejevas said.[4]

On Surfshark Group’s Acquisition of Optery

After Surfshark Group acquired a majority stake in the US data removal company Optery, Belejevas, as Incogni’s chief executive, said that combining Optery’s US-market expertise with Incogni’s global scale would strengthen protection for everyday internet users, and that the deal targeted the root cause of scams and privacy violations: “the widespread monetization of personal data.”[5]
