Key facts
Early life and education
He was born and raised outside Detroit and worked at In-Q-Tel before returning to Stanford for business school.[1]
Stanford lists him with the undergraduate class of 2000 and MBA class of 2005, and among Governors’ Award recipients.[2]
His BA was in Economics and Spanish.[3]
2005–2011Companies and entrepreneurship
He joined IronPort in product management in 2005 and Google in business development in 2006.[1]
He later worked in business development at Gaia Interactive and Serious Business, which Zynga acquired in February 2010.[3]
In 2010, he co-founded Android game company Bionic Panda Games.[1]
In a 2018 interview, he recalled starting work with Jeff Clavier in late 2010 and formally becoming a SoftTech VC venture partner in 2011. After Bionic Panda failed to raise further financing, he returned to investing full-time.[4]
2015–2016Precursor Ventures
Crunchbase’s interview dates the founding of Precursor Ventures to 2015.[1]
He wanted to back founders before substantial business metrics existed. In the 2018 interview, he said the first fund reached $15.3 million after roughly two years of fundraising.[4]
He told Startup Grind that his then-current fund closed in December 2016, and named recruiting, fundraising and reinforcing culture as three CEO priorities.[5]
2023–2024NVCA chair term
At NVCA’s 2023 annual gala, Hudson succeeded Emily Melton as board chair for the 2023–2024 term.[6]
2025Fund and investments
Speaking to TechCrunch, he cited Bobbie’s Laura Modi and Rad AI’s Doktor Gurson when discussing the limits of résumé filters, and said early share sales could forgo later appreciation.[8]
2026Public views
In July 2026, Hudson argued that larger rounds had weakened pre-seed and seed labels. He wanted to consider more opportunities but was unsure whether investments would change. His essay dates Precursor’s start to 2014, differing from Crunchbase’s 2015 account.[9][1]
VC Lab’s recap of an October 1, 2026 conversation describes his focus on founders’ past risk-taking rather than fundraising performances. He did not use industry experience as a universal filter and wanted to see how a company could grow substantially.[10]
