Bruno Martins (Algorand)
Bruno Martins is a blockchain engineer who served as chief architect of the Algorand FoundationAlgorand (ALGO)Algorand is a public layer-1 blockchain proposed by Turing Award winner and MIT professor Silvio Micali. Its native token is ALGO, it uses a “Pure Proof-of-Stake” consensus based on verifiable random functions and cryptographic sortition, and its mainnet launched in June 2019. The Algorand Foundation, which is responsible for ecosystem growth, token supply, and governance, was originally based in Singapore and moved back to Delaware in the United States in 2026; in recent years the network has focused on payments, asset tokenization, and post-quantum cryptography.Open the full entry and was appointed chief technology officer in March 2026, overseeing protocol engineering; in October of that year, after nearly four years at the foundation, he announced his resignation.

Key facts
Early Life: Career Before the Algorand Foundation
Before joining the Algorand Foundation, Martins worked for several years at IOHK and Consensys, where he designed blockchain solutions and integrated them into enterprise systems; his experience spans software development, applied cryptography, key management systems, and Android, and outside Web3 he has also worked in industries including gaming and sports betting.[1][1]
March 24, 2026Promoted from Chief Architect to Chief Technology Officer
After joining the Algorand Foundation, Martins served as chief architect and twice stepped into the role of acting chief technology officer during critical moments. On March 24, 2026, a week after announcing that ecosystem operations were now unified under the foundation, the foundation announced three promotions, appointing Martins chief technology officer with responsibility for protocol engineering; his expertise spans blockchain engineering, applied cryptography, and key management systems.[2][2][2][2][2]
June 18, 2026Post-Quantum Security Roadmap
On June 18, 2026, the Algorand Foundation announced a post-quantum security roadmap aiming to give every layer of the protocol broad quantum resilience by the end of 2027. Speaking as chief technology officer, Martins said post-quantum security cannot be retrofitted after “Q-Day,” and that every institution tokenizing or staking, every developer building, and every user transacting on Algorand needs to know their assets will remain secure should the quantum threat materialize, an assurance the roadmap provides starting with concrete deployments in 2026.[3][3][3]
October 2026Resignation as Chief Technology Officer
Around October 9, 2026, Martins announced on X that he was resigning after nearly four years at the Algorand Foundation and moving to the next phase of his career, without giving specific reasons, and said he would remain an active member of the Algorand community and continue supporting the network’s development; the foundation had not yet named a successor. His departure followed the stepping down of former chief executive Staci Warden and William Herkelrath’s takeover as chief executive on August 31, and a few days later chief strategy and marketing officer Marc Vanlerberghe also resigned.[4][4][4][5][5][5]
