Key facts

Origins of ComfyUI

In October 2022 the developer comfyanonymous discovered Stable Diffusion, and ComfyUI grew out of that work, developing from a playground for diffusion models into an open-source platform for creative AI.[1]

Comfy says that in January 2023 no tool could chain two AI models into a repeatable workflow, and that a developer in Quebec City built his own in two weeks and open-sourced it. ComfyUI began as a community project with one developer and one open-source repository.[2][3]

Leaving Stability AI and Founding Comfy Org

On June 18, 2024, comfyanonymous announced that he had resigned from Stability AI and was founding Comfy Org with partners including mcmonkey4eva, Dr.Lt.Data, pythongossssss, robinken and yoland68, in order to keep developing ComfyUI with more resources.[4]

Comfy Org’s stated goals were to make ComfyUI the best free open-source software for running AI models, focusing on image, video and audio models in that order, and to improve the custom node registry and set basic safety standards for custom nodes. comfyanonymous wrote: “I personally believe that closed source AI is a dead end and a waste of time.”[4]

$17 Million Funding

On September 16, 2025, Comfy announced $17 million in funding from investors including Pace Capital, Chemistry and Abstract Ventures. The company said it would use the funds to stabilize the custom node ecosystem, ship a more intuitive interface, build a cloud service for users with limited local compute and keep supporting newly released models.[1]

Comfy Cloud Public Beta and General Availability

On November 4, 2025, Comfy Cloud, a browser-based version of ComfyUI, dropped its waitlist and opened a public beta. The service ran on NVIDIANVIDIANVIDIA is an American semiconductor and computing technology company that provides graphics processing units, artificial intelligence infrastructure, networking interconnects, and computing software, and is listed on Nasdaq under the ticker NVDA.Open the full entry A100 GPUs with 40GB of memory, offered more than 400 open-source models and 17 preinstalled community extensions, and cost $20 a month including $10 in monthly Partner Nodes credits.[5]

On March 4, 2026, Comfy announced that Comfy Cloud had exited beta, after introducing a free tier earlier that week. The service then billed only for active GPU time while a workflow ran, used NVIDIA Blackwell RTX 6000 Pro GPUs with 96GB of VRAM, offered both open-source and closed-source models, and supported the custom nodes behind about 90% of local workflows.[6]

$30 Million at a $500 Million Valuation

On April 24, 2026, ComfyUI announced that it had raised $30 million at a $500 million valuation in a round led by Craft Ventures, with participation from Pace Capital, Chemistry, TruArrow and others, bringing its total funding to $47 million. The company said it had about 4 million users, more than 60,000 community-built nodes and more than 150,000 daily downloads.[3][7]

The announcement quoted co-founder and ComfyUI creator Yannik Marek: “With this funding we can make sure open source wins.” The funds were earmarked for scaling Comfy Cloud for teams, adding collaborative workflow features, continuing investment in Comfy Local and providing same-day support for major model releases.[3]

Co-founder and chief executive officer Yoland Yan argued that prompt-based tools often get only 60% to 80% of the way to what a user wants, and said that “the Comfy version of human-in-the -loop approach is going to win out.”[7]

Software and Products

ComfyUI is a node-graph AI engine that generates images, video, audio, 3D models and text; it can run locally and offline, supports custom nodes and a local API, and is available on Windows, Linux and macOS, with its code released under the GPL-3.0 license in the Comfy-Org/ComfyUI repository on GitHub. As of November 4, 2026, the repository showed about 143,500 stars and about 17,000 forks; the project usually ships a release every week and a new major core version roughly every two weeks.[8]

As of November 2026, Comfy Org’s products included Comfy Desktop, the cloud service Comfy Cloud, a developer platform (Comfy API) and Comfy Enterprise for businesses.[9]
