Benjamin Titus Roberts

Benjamin Titus Roberts（B. T. Roberts，1823年7月25日—1893年2月27日）是美国牧师，北美自由卫理公会（Free Methodist Church of North America）的创始人。他原属卫理公会 Genesee 年议会，1858年被逐出后于1860年在纽约州 Pekin 组建自由卫理公会，并任首任总监督至去世；1866年他在纽约州 North Chili 创办 Chili Seminary，即今 Roberts Wesleyan University 的前身。

早年与教育

Benjamin Titus Roberts 于1823年7月25日生于美国纽约州 Gowanda。1842年至1844年，他在纽约州 Little Falls 随 Henry Link 学习法律，之后进入康涅狄格州 Middletown 的 Wesleyan University，1848年毕业。⁠[1]

1848年加入 Genesee 年议会

1848年，Roberts 加入卫理公会（Methodist Episcopal Church）Genesee 年议会，1850年按立为会吏，1852年按立为长老。他批评教会出售或出租座位（pew rental）的做法，认为这会把买不起座位的穷人挡在教会门外。⁠[1][2]

1860年组建自由卫理公会

1860年，Roberts 在纽约州 Pekin 组建自由卫理公会（Free Methodist Church），即今北美自由卫理公会，并开始出版刊物《The Earnest Christian》。他自1860年起任自由卫理公会首任总监督（General Superintendent），直至1893年去世；1866年至1890年他还担任《Free Methodist》编辑。⁠[1]

1866年创办 Chili Seminary

1866年，Roberts 在纽约州 North Chili 创办 Chili Seminary，学校最初在一座农舍的一个房间开学。该校1885年改名 A. M. Chesbrough Seminary，1949年改为四年制的 Roberts Wesleyan College，2022年经纽约州教育董事会批准改名 Roberts Wesleyan University。⁠[1][2]

1893年2月27日去世

1893年2月27日，Roberts 在纽约州 Cattaraugus 去世。他的家族文书现藏美国国会图书馆手稿部。⁠[1]
