Early Life: From Sales and Headhunting to Marketing
Sordell has described herself as a “job hopper” at the start of her career, working as a headhunter, in PR, and in events. As a headhunter she found that marketing campaigns were a more effective way to win clients’ attention than making a hundred calls a day, and her boss then made her the company’s marketing manager, which led her into marketing and, in particular, personal branding.[1][1][1]
July 30, 2020Founding Klowt
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Sordell quit her job and, working alone from her bedroom, founded the personal branding agency Klowt; KLOWT LTD was incorporated in the UK on July 30, 2020, and she has been a director since that day. Klowt serves senior executives and entrepreneurs, running their social media, arranging podcast appearances, building websites, and so on, branding people rather than businesses.[2][1][3][4][4][1]
When she started she already had about 15,000 LinkedInLinkedInLinkedIn is a social networking platform for professionals. October 9, 2023Interview with The Venture Room
On October 9, 2023, The Venture Room released a long-form interview with Sordell on how to build a personal brand. In the program she said she was born in Sydney, Australia, moved with her family to London at about the age of seven, and studied applied communications and PR at university; at 21 she started a clothing brand that was profitable in its first year and stocked in about 15 boutiques, but in its second year a customer that had placed its biggest-ever order went out of business before delivery, leaving her with unsold stock and a cash-flow crisis, and the brand closed.[5][5][5][5][5][5][5]
She recalled that she then worked in headhunting, B2B marketing, employee engagement, and recruitment marketing, and was headhunted after building a personal brand on LinkedIn; during the pandemic she decided to quit her job, first working freelance and then growing an agency of about 15 people, and she was planning to launch a membership subscription product.[5][5][5][5]

Advice Shared on The Venture Room
“Attention is the number one asset that any business can have.” She said that if she had to start from scratch, the first thing she would do is rebuild her personal brand and grow an audience, because whoever holds attention can sell products and services to that audience (at 02:19 in the video, March 2025 street interview).[8]
“Find a problem that only you can solve.” She believes many people start businesses looking for any problem that can be solved without realizing they need an angle that is uniquely theirs, because investors and customers first need to believe in you (at 03:51 in the video, March 2025 street interview).[8]
“Start with your goal.” She advised working out your goal before building a personal brand, and then working backward to the audience you need to attract and the content you need to say (at 47:57 in the video, October 2023 interview).[5]
“Only talk about what you want to be known for, and be consistent.” She believes a personal brand does not need to cover everything but should focus on the topics you want to be remembered for and be sustained over time; it took her a year to reach 10,000 followers (at 52:22 in the video, October 2023 interview).[5][5]
“A service-based business doesn’t need a penny to start; you just need your time.” Using her own agency as an example, she explained that a service business requires no upfront product costs, can start as soon as it has clients, and can then hire gradually from cash flow (at 01:03:03 in the video, October 2023 interview).[5]
