Key facts
Early Life: Family Juice Business and Leaving School
Spivak’s parents immigrated to Canada from Israel and worked blue-collar jobs; he has four brothers.[1]
His mother lost weight on a juice cleanse, and the family turned their house into a juice business that became the cold-pressed juice company Revitasize; he became immersed in it near the end of his senior year of high school, and Revitasize opened its first location in Thornhill before growing to nine locations in the Greater Toronto Area.[1]
He enrolled in York University’s business program and later dropped out, writing: “I quickly realized that whether it was juice or something else, running businesses would be my career.”[1]
2017–2018Co-founding Hush Blankets with Lior Ohayon
Spivak and Lior Ohayon, friends from Thornhill, Ontario, met while working on a program in Israel and conceived the weighted-blanket idea in 2017, with the product aimed at easing anxiety and improving sleep.[2]
Ohayon was then running a software company called ScopeLeads. The two launched Hush Blankets in January 2018; when sales slowed that July, customer feedback showed the product was seasonal, so they developed a cooling fabric and launched a Kickstarter campaign with a $70,000 goal that raised $1.5 million from 12,000 backers in 16 countries within 30 days.[1]
He said Hush reached $10 million in revenue in its second year.[1]
2019Appearing on Dragons’ Den
In 2019 Spivak and Ohayon pitched Hush on CBC’s business investment show Dragons’ Den.[2]
October 2021Sleep Country Canada Acquires a Controlling Stake in Hush
On October 19, 2021, Sleep Country Canada announced it would acquire 52% of Hush Blankets for $25 million, about 9.0 times Hush’s trailing 12-month EBITDA as of September 30, 2021, with the remaining 48% to be acquired in three annual 16% tranches starting March 31, 2023, each priced at up to 7.0 times trailing 12-month EBITDA.[3]
In the announcement Spivak said: “Joining forces with a best-in-class and trusted brand like Sleep Country means Hush will be able to rapidly scale.”[3]
The deal closed on October 22, 2021, implying a valuation of $48 million for Hush; Hush continued to operate as a separate entity, with Spivak and Ohayon leading it in their existing roles.[4]
August 24, 2026Interview with Hard Knocks Business
On August 24, 2026, Hard Knocks Business released the short video “He sold his company for $48 MILLION,” filmed in Miami, Florida. In the video he said he started Hush at 19 and sold it to “the largest sleep retailer in the country” at 25 for $48 million.[5]
He recalled working 16- to 17-hour days and said that after the sale, instead of buying cars as he had expected, he felt sad and lonely. He said his father drove a truck, his mother cleaned houses and there were five boys in the family, that he did not finish high school or university, and that while building Hush the team at one point lived on three 45-minute naps a day, with no outside funding.[5]
October 13, 2026Appearance in a Hard Knocks Business Compilation
On October 13, 2026, Hard Knocks Business released the compilation video “Asking Young Millionaires How They Got Rich!,” which opens with his interview; in it he gives only his first name, “Aaron.” In this version he added that he used to DJ on weekends for $400 a gig and that the team turned $4,000 of DJ money used for advertising into a $48 million exit without money from anyone or a bank loan.[6]
He also said he launched The Founders Club about two and a half years earlier with the idea of bringing the best people together.[6]
Advice Shared on Hard Knocks Business
Reflecting that he chose isolation while building his company and made costly mistakes, he advised founders to communicate and seek out like-minded people (video at 01:29).[5]
He advised not listening to people you do not want to be like and filtering the information you take in carefully, warning that people close to you may want you to do well only as long as it is not better than them (video at 01:47).[5]
He encouraged founders to leave their original circle and meet new people, saying there are many people in the world who want you to win (video at 02:08).[5]
The Founders Club and Writing for Founders
In the author bio of his first-person January 2025 article for Canadian Business, The Founders Club is described as a community connecting entrepreneurs in the CPG, e-commerce and retail industries.[1]
In May 2025 he wrote in his Founder2Founder newsletter that he started by stitching weighted blankets in a scrappy warehouse and crowdfunded prototypes, and that Hush became a seven-figure brand in just over a year; the newsletter, aimed at people building or growing companies, covers sleep struggles, supply chains and mindset.[7]
